Excerpt:
“We just want to help you, sweetheart,” my mother said, holding out a hand in my direction. “We’re worried about you.”
“Worried? Why?”
My father stood up. “You’ve been spending an awful lot of time with your computer lately, and we think it’s time you stopped.”

Excerpt:
Mr. C. spends most of the day checking all the containers on the plane. He usually goes through his lists about four or five times. It’s tedious work, and by the time midnight rolls around you can tell he really needs a break. But he doesn’t let it show. He’s always smiling, always happy and has a nice word for people.
The stories definitely got that part right.

Excerpt:
My jaw dropped. How could he just ask me that as if he was asking whether I wanted a candy cane in my hot chocolate? This wasn’t some supply run or checking on the reindeer. He wanted me to take his place in making the Christmas Eve deliveries! I would have to keep track of everything, be everyone’s boss that night, try to coordinate drop-offs and pickups.
I would have to fly again. And Mr. C. knew, from my interview five years ago, that I don’t fly.

Excerpt:
Suddenly the plane jerked out of my control. I frantically pulled at levers and knobs, but the plane started spinning around. I screeched and tried to do something, anything, to get going in the right direction again but nothing worked.
