Exercising the craft—April 12, 2021

By Ekta R. Garg

In lieu of a regular prompt, I decided to write some haiku. In no way am I anything close to an accomplished poet, and poetry often leaves me speechless at its level of complexity. I do, however, from time to time enjoy writing and reading haiku. That’s what I was in the mood for today, so that’s what I’m sharing with you now. And I know haiku is supposed to be a single stanza of verse, but so often I’ve veered away from what everyone else does that I thought why not here too?

The theme is spring.

The bird swoops downward.

Lands on the branch, stakes a claim.

Spring means a new nest.

Bunnies crouch or stand.

So still; eyes and ears alert.

Then they bound away.

Flowers peer upward.

As the sun rises and warms,

Petals unfurl. Spring.
