Exercising the craft–July 6, 2020

By Ekta R. Garg

I wrote this poem for a friend who has had a major health challenge and dealt with treatment with grace and dignity. My friend’s birthday is coming–the first since diagnosis– so I thought it appropriate to share a few words, in free verse, about how my friend and all of us feel.

*****

For Your Special Day

Candles gleam with hope;

Balloons float on joy;

Streamers hang with cheer.

Presents wrapped with pleasure;

Wishes sung with gladness;

Future hugs are promised.

Challenge met with fortitude;

Journey marked with gratitude;

Birthday now means victory.
